Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) is a consequence of the interaction of genetic and environmental factors, among which lifestyle plays a fundamental role. It comprises a group of common metabolic disorders that share the phenotype of hyperglycemia. Several different types of DM exist due to a complex interplay between genetics, environmental factors, and lifestyle choices.

A cross-sectional, analytical study was carried out. 150 people with a diagnosis of DM2 were selected, IMEVID was applied to them to measure lifestyles and a comparison was made between people who have adequate glycemic control and those who do not. The data was analyzed through SPSS version 20. In order to determine lifestyles of people with type 2 diabetes mellitus who attend a medical unit in Navojoa, Sonora.

A total of 150 patients with DM2 were studied, of whom 97 were women and 53 men, the mean age was 49.79 years and the mean blood glucose was 186 mg/dl. Given the above conditions, 78% presented a bad lifestyle and 22% a good lifestyle; only 26.7% of the patients with glycosylated hemoglobin in control target less than 6.5% and 73.3% with glycosylated hemoglobin out of target (greater than 6.5%).

Poor lifestyles occurred more frequently in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus with inadequate glycemic control compared to those with adequate glycemic control.
