Abstract

Social mobility, a concept intrinsically linked to the structure and dynamics of societies, is essential to understand how individuals and families can move up or down in terms of economic, educational and occupational status throughout their lives. This phenomenon reflects the capacity of a society to provide equal opportunities and to break the links of intergenerational inequality. Its study acquires a crucial importance in the understanding of the sociocultural and economic dynamics that define the life of every individual, for which; The goal of investigating social mobility not only sheds light on the interaction between the individual and their environment, but also reveals the effects of government policies, educational systems, and institutional barriers on the realization of human potential. Through this analysis, academics and policy makers can identify persistent patterns of inequality and, at the same time, identify the factors that enable upward mobility; Social mobility also has a direct impact on the social cohesion and stability of a society. When opportunities are widely distributed and access to education and employment is equitable, a sense of justice is fostered that contributes to greater harmony between social strata. On the other hand, the lack of social mobility can give rise to tensions and discontent, as individuals may feel that they are trapped in a disadvantaged position without the realistic possibility of improvement.

In conclusion, the study of social mobility transcends the mere observation of economic and educational trends, and becomes a fundamental tool to assess the health and equity of a society, as well as to inform political decision-making aimed at promoting inclusive development and sustainable progress.
