The "floating population" consists of individuals who temporarily reside in a specific area without permanently settling. Mexicali, a border city, has historically been a significant destination for this population, which has driven urban development but also created significant social implications. Given the diverse and dynamic nature of this group, it is essential to understand its characteristics to meet their needs. Through a mixed methodology that included a survey and interviews with key informants, these characteristics were examined in depth. This study revealed a remarkable diversity of profiles and provided insight into how they are perceived by local residents. In summary, these individuals exhibit distinctive traits that reflect the local socioeconomic context and the complexities of their transitory situation.
