Abstract

The present study aimed to identify if there is food security in indigenous communities of the Municipality of Huatabampo, that is, the permanent access of all people to foods such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains and healthy fats, which are required for a active and healthy life (Latham, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, 2002). This study was carried out at the request of a group of people interested in supporting the most vulnerable groups and establishing a focused path for young people to continue with this, in favor of the community, called INICIATIVA CIUDADANA HUATABAMPO. For this, it was determined to choose ten communities randomly and easily accessible, being a requirement that they present a high degree of marginalization, being a total of 70 out of 210 existing communities (SEDESOL, 2015), in addition to measuring whether in the pandemic generated by the COVID 19 this degree of marginalization had increased or decreased. Because there are a large number of communities, only ten communities were taken (see table 1), chosen as samples for this research due to the limited time in which it is being carried out, from September to November of this year, being the study of the type qualitative cross-sectional since only the information collected on these dates will be taken into account.

It was determined only to survey women as heads of family since these are the ones who traditionally buy and prepare food, taking into account those responsible for collecting the information that, before asking, reported the meaning of food security. It was determined to apply the food security scale that has already been validated previously for households in Venezuela and Colombia, presenting this instrument in annexes.
